The aim of this project is to demonstrate the technological feasibility of using solar thermal energy to supply different in-dustrial processes, other than electricity generation and common denominator of which is their high process temperature. For this purpose, the experience and knowledge gathered during the various central receiver technology projects and materials treatment activities will be combined in the Solar Furnace.

Processes studied have been classified in two basic groups:

  • Industrial manufacturing processes.

  • Solid wastes treatment processes.

SolarPRO has verified the enormous potential of applying solar thermal energy to the ceramic industry, solid waste treat-ment, and some materials treatments, such as sintering.
