Project SFERA-III
European e-infrastructure on Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST) technologies
SFERA-III (https://sfera3.sollab.eu/) is a H2020 project coordinated by CIEMAT-PSA and funded under the Research Infrastructure Programme. The consortium is composed of 15 partners from 9 EU member countries. The project runs from January 2019 to December 2022. There are three groups of activities in SFERA-III: Transnational Access to Research Infrastructures of the partners, Networking Activities and Joint Research Activities (JRAs).
One of the JRAs is the design of a European e-infrastructure linking the main European research centers devoted to Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST) technologies. This JRA is coordinated by CIEMAT-PSA. An e-infrastructure is a combination of digital technology, computational resources, and communications to support collaborative work and research. A key point for the detailed design of the intended CST e-infrastructure is the definition of the list of tools and services to be offered. It seems evident that a major service should be the remote access to the research facilities included in the e-infrastructure, so that external users could perform experiments remotely using this e-infrastructure. However, the list of services and tools that may be offered to the CST community by this e-infrastructure is large. Since the main objective of the intended e-infrastructure is to provide global support to the CST sector, the participation of the CST stakeholders in the definition of the list of services and tools that should be offered is essential.
