Project description
Third-cycle subject: Energy and Environmental Systems, Energy Technology
To achieve rapid decarbonization of the industrial sector, technically efficient and cost-effective hybrid solutions integrating renewable energy technologies, heat electrification and/or upgrading systems, energy storage and power units are deemed. We aim to design, and prototype different technologies, including high temperature thermal energy storage, heat pumps and renewable integrated systems. The doctoral student will have a broad perspective focusing on technology development and performing techno-economic analysis to identify optimal integration opportunities. The main goals of the doctoral work will be to design, prototype and test such technologies in the lab, and to perform system level techno-economic assessment of the proposed systems under different market and industrial applications. The PhD candidate is expected to have international cooperation with EU partners.
Supervision: Dr. Rafael Guedez and Dr. Silvia Trevisan are proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission.
