Philipp Furler, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Synhelion, and Silvan Eberhard, Head of Logistics at Eberhard Unternehmungen, celebrate solar diesel offtake agreement for construction machinery.
Press release:
Zurich, February 3, 2026
Eberhard Bau AG, a leading Swiss construction company, has signed a long-term offtake agreement for solar diesel with cleantech company Synhelion. Starting in 2027, Eberhard will purchase renewable diesel to reduce the CO₂ emissions of its construction machinery.
Synhelion’s renewable fuels are produced using renewable energy and are fully compatible with existing diesel engines – an ideal solution for construction machinery that operates under demanding conditions and is hard to electrify.
Renewable fuels for heavy machinery
With the signing of the offtake agreement, Synhelion is expanding the use of its renewable synthetic fuels to the construction sector for the first time – in addition to aviation, shipping, and road transportation. Construction machinery is heavy, operates in rough terrain, and is difficult to electrify due to its high power requirements. By using renewable fuels, Eberhard is taking on a pioneering role and contributing to the sustainable transformation of the construction industry.
“As a construction company, we have a special responsibility to use resources sustainably. Our machines are in heavy use every day – reliability is crucial. With Synhelion’s solar diesel, we can reduce CO₂ emissions in areas where there was previously no viable alternative,” says Silvan Eberhard, Head of Logistics at Eberhard Unternehmungen. “We are happy to have found a Swiss innovation partner in Synhelion with whom we can take a step forward and make a real contribution to defossilizing the construction industry.”
Scalable technology for a sustainable future
In 2024, Synhelion commissioned DAWN, the world’s first industrial plant for the production of solar fuels, in Germany. The company is now preparing to build its first commercial plant, which is scheduled to start operations in 2027. Synhelion’s renewable fuels reduce net CO₂ emissions by up to 100% compared to fossil fuels. They are fully compatible with existing infrastructure and can be used in existing combustion engines without any modifications.
Philipp Furler, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Synhelion, emphasizes: “Eberhard is the first construction company to rely on our renewable fuels, a milestone for the defossilization of this challenging sector. This application shows how our technology is having a concrete impact beyond aviation.”
Besides Eberhard Bau AG, other pioneers such as Swiss International Air Lines, Pilatus Aircraft, Zurich Airport, AMAG Group, and Lake Lucerne Navigation Company have signed offtake agreements for renewable fuel with Synhelion. These offtake agreements demonstrate the growing demand for renewable, scalable solutions for different transportation sectors.
About Synhelion
Synhelion produces renewable solar fuels to defossilize the transportation sector. The cleantech company has developed a scalable technology to produce synthetic fuels from solar energy. These solar fuels are nearly CO₂-neutral and fully compatible with today’s global fuel infrastructure and conventional engines. Since the launch of its industrial-scale plant DAWN in 2024, Synhelion has been producing solar jet fuel, diesel, and gasoline and delivering them to its customers. Backed by international partners across various industry and transportation sectors, Synhelion is on a mission to replace fossil fuels with renewable solar fuels.
