WRBC confirms Dubai set the World Record for Longest Continuous Operation of a CSP Plant: 39 Days
According to the World Record Benchmark Committee (WRBC), based on public certification information, the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) has set a world record for the “Longest Continuous Operation of a CSP Power Plant” by running a concentrated solar power plant continuously for 39 days at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park project in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
the WRBC confirmed that all indicators of the project meet the certification and database standards for the world record of “Longest Continuous Operation of a CSP Power Plant.”
The WRBC conducted rigorous verification across all dimensions: collecting public archives, re-checking the continuous operation duration, verifying the project entity and geographic location, confirming the completion time of the project, and benchmarking against the historical operation records of similar CSP plants worldwide. Following the complete review process, the WRBC officially certified that DEWA has set a brand-new world record in this field, based on the plant’s 39 days of uninterrupted operation.
This record was achieved by DEWA in Dubai, UAE, with the continuous operation period running from May 11 to June 20, 2024; the operation verification was completed on June 20, 2024.
Compared with conventional installed-capacity metrics, the continuous operation duration of a power plant is a more fundamental evaluation dimension, as it comprehensively reflects the system’s dispatching capability, thermal storage unit performance, equipment reliability, O&M system capability, and the stability of continuous energy supply. The project’s operational achievement fully demonstrates the practical value of CSP technology in enhancing the dispatchability of clean energy.
After comprehensively reviewing DEWA’s CSP plant operation data sets, timeline, project location, public certification materials, and global clean energy operation records, cthe WRBC confirmed that all indicators of the project meet the certification and database standards for the world record of “Longest Continuous Operation of a CSP Power Plant.”
DEWA’s setting of this world record is a landmark case in the development and transformation of the global clean energy industry; the focus of industry competition is shifting from a contest of installed capacity to a comprehensive competition in long-term, stable operational capability of power plants.
In the process of renewable energy industrialization, the ability to provide stable, continuous, and dispatchable power output is a core condition for clean energy to replace traditional energy at scale. From an industrial and commercial perspective, this record further establishes Dubai’s benchmark position in global green energy investment and financing, energy infrastructure development, and sustainable city building. The technical solution of CSP coupled with thermal storage systems also provides a clean energy implementation paradigm with long-term value for energy operators, urban governance bodies, and infrastructure investors.
From a sustainable development perspective, energy transformation concerns future urban construction, climate security, and intergenerational equity. This 39-day continuous operation achievement is not merely a breakthrough in engineering parameters, but a shared exploration of humanity’s reliance on technological innovation to reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy resilience, and safeguard the ecological rights of future generations.
The WRBC has completed the official certification process, and this record has been formally entered into the “WRBC Global World Record Public Database” with record number WRC260904S. This certification serves both as an objective attestation of the continuous operational performance of DEWA’s CSP plant and as a standardized world record reference benchmark for the global development of CSP power generation, energy storage dispatching, and stable clean energy supply systems.
